Introduction
When The Petals Fall was my second completed novel and a personal shift toward quiet, emotionally layered storytelling. Unlike darker or more psychological narratives, this project focused on stillness, simplicity, and human connection—told through the rhythm of everyday life. It became a study in how emotion, pacing, and layout could work together to tell something soft yet impactful.
Concept Overview
At its heart, this is a story about love that grows in silence. Kei and Reina, two people grounded by their routines and personal struggles, find meaning in the little things—shared glances, unspoken comfort, and the way time gently shapes a bond. The tone mirrors memory itself: delicate, warm, and bittersweet.
The Story
Kei and Reina’s connection unfolds without drama. No grand declarations—just the quiet trust built through ordinary moments that feel extraordinary in context. As the seasons shift, their bond becomes a quiet anchor.
Like petals falling from a flower, their story is a reminder that while some moments don’t last, they always leave something behind.
Instagram Carousel
To extend the book’s soft, introspective tone online, I designed a personality test carousel that asked users gentle, poetic questions about memory, peace, and emotion.
The result options mirrored the book’s themes—such as A Brushstroke of Silence or The Colour of Us. Each frame used muted colours and delicate imagery to deepen the emotional experience beyond the page.
Design & Layout
The cover features a warm, illustrated style that feels like a memory—soft, nostalgic, and grounded. Kei and Reina sit peacefully in a field of spring blossoms, surrounded by calm skies and quiet light. The back cover extends this mood, showing a blooming orchard beneath a pastel sky.

Creative Reflection
This project taught me how powerful quiet storytelling can be. It wasn’t driven by plot twists or dramatic tension but by stillness, trust, and emotional nuance. Through soft language, minimal design, and subtle pacing, I learned how to shape a story that feels like a shared memory. Every visual and narrative decision was about letting emotion breathe.
I learned to
• Maintain a consistent heartfelt tone across writing and visuals
• Use subtle design choices to amplify emotion without overstating it
• Let ordinary moments carry the story’s emotional weight
